We will take an early morning transfer to the airport and fly to Lukla (2880m). This 35-minute flight provides a magnificent start to the trek as it highlights the snowline of the Himalayan Ranges in the north before the rugged landing at Lukla airport. It is said that this is one of the most spectacular flights in the world.

Upon arrival, we will meet the Sherpa team, and while the team reassembles the equipment for distribution to the Porters and Jhopke (a cross between and cow and a Yak used to carry loads), there will be a short lunch break.

During this break, guests are welcome to explore this bustling town on top of a hill with rows of houses, hotels and shops lining both sides of cobbled streets. After lunch, the trek starts by following a trail leading northwest through a narrow street which immediately descends from the end of the village into the open hillside.

The trail is well defined, and there are many shops and lodges catering to the trekkers. The trek this day is a very easy one and ultimately descends to the river at Phakding (2652m).

Flight- 35 min

Total trekking time 3-4 hours

Elevation: Lukla 2700m, Phakding 2600m

Dinner and Overnight at Phakding.

Today we will continue north following the Dudh Kosi river and on to Jorsale where we enter the Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park.

From here it is a short walk to the confluence of two rivers, the lmja Drangpa (Imja Khola) and the Nangpo Tsangpo (Bhote Kosi) followed by a steep climb (for about 2hrs.) to Namche Bazaar, the main town in the Khumbu region.

Namche is a prosperous Sherpa town and an important trading centre with a weekly Saturday market.

Total trekking time: 6 hours

Elevation: 3440m

Overnight Namche Bazaar.

Namche Bazaar is tucked away between two ridges amongst the giant peaks of the Khumbu. Once named the 'Trekkers Mecca of Nepal, Namche now boasts an abundance of lodges and souvenir shops. It is an ideal place to spend a rest day, acclimatising to the new altitude of 3450m before heading off towards Gokyo.

Options for acclimatisation walks include a visit to Khunde Hospital and also a one hour walk up to the Everest Hotel above Namche for a spectacular sunset view of Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse and Everest.

Overnight Namche Bazaar.

From Namche, the trail contours around the side of the valley, high above the Dudh Kosi. Now we get our first really good view of the great peaks of the Khumbu, including Mt Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam. Passing by several villages and numerous tea shops, we descend steeply to a bridge over the river at Phunki Tenga.

The village is an excellent lunch spot, and here we can rest before making the steep climb to Tengboche. Although tiring, the hike up the zigzag path has numerous distractions, with rhododendron bushes, beautiful birds and superb mountain scenery.

Tengboche is famous for its legendary monastery, the largest in the Khumbu. We stay near the monastery with Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam framed in the doorway of our guest house.

Total trekking: 6 hours

Elevation: 3860m

Overnight Tengboche.

After breakfast, we head up to Dingbuche. On the way the majestic Amadablam overshadows our day. We will come to a little Sherpa village called Pangbuche before continuing to Dingbuche.

Total trekking time: 6 hours

Elevation: 4300m

Overnight Dingbuche

Today will be another acclimatization day. Studies on high altitude sickness have found that most people suffer or show signs of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) from the altitude of 14,000 ft. Thus, it is highly recommended to have a rest day to acclimatize at this altitude before starting an ascent.

A trekkers’ aid post operates at the settlement of Pheriche which can be reached in 1 ½ hours from Dingboche. The Aid post is supported by the Himalayan Rescue Association and Tokyo Medical College. A western physician is usually in attendance during the trekking season. This establishment, and the doctors who operate it, specialize in the study and treatment of altitude sickness and strive to educate trekkers in the dangers of too fast an ascent to high altitudes.

Another option is to take a walk towards the beautiful Chukung Valley for acclimatization and walking in high altitudes.

Elevation: 4410m

Dinner and overnight at Dingboche.

Today we continue up the wide valley beneath the impressive peaks of Cholatse and Tawache on the left. We then turn right and climb more steeply towards the foot of the Khumbu Glacier.

At the top of this climb there are many stone cairns, built as memorials to the many Sherpas who have died while climbing Mt Everest.

The path then climbs gently along the glacier, eventually reaching a cluster of houses at Lobuche.

Total trekking time: 6 hours

Elevation: 4930m

Overnight Lobuche

We continue our trek along the Khumbu Glacier. We will reach our destination quiet early but you can spend the rest of the day for acclimatization and preparation for the next day's adventure by hiking to Kalapatthar or Everest base camp.

Total trekking time: 2.5 hours

Elevation: 5170m

Optional hike to Kalapattar

Total trekking time Kalappatar: 3 hours

Elevation: 5500m

Optional hike to Everest Base Camp

Elevation: 5300m

Overnight at Gorakshep.

After an early start we will enjoy the sunrise colours as they begin to appear on Everest as we make our way to the top of one of the finest viewpoints in the Everest region, Kala Pattar [5554m].

Next, we will trek back to Gorakshep for Breakfast before continuing to Everest Base camp (5300m). The walk to the base camp takes about 5-6 hours following the Khumbu glacier sometimes along moraine lakes and sometimes on the glacier itself. The walk is especially interesting for the views of the 15-meters high ice features which are peculiar to Himalayan glaciers.

The base camp of the highest mountain in the world is mostly inhabited by several expeditions from all over the world.

After Everest Base Camp it is downhill most of the way as we retrace our steps to Duglha and descend to Pheriche. The Himalayan Rescue Association has a trekker’s aid post here and it is quite interesting to visit.

Total trekking time: 7 hours

Elevation:

Kalapattar 5500m

Everest Base Camp 5300m

Pheriche 4280m

Overnight Pheriche

Today we continue to follow the river and after crossing it, climb back up through birch and rhododendron forest to Khumjung.

Total trekking time: 6 hours

Elevation: 3860m

Overnight Khumjung

The trail descends steeply to the village of Jorsale. Passing the villages of Phakding (2640m)

From Khumjung we descend to the bridge over the Dudh Kosi at Phunki where there are water driven prayer wheels, then climb and contour around the hillside to Phakding.

Total trekking time: 5 hours

Elevation: 3400m

Overnight Phakding

From Phakding, passing the village of Phakding (2640m) and Choplung, we reach Chaunrikharka and the trail that cuts up to the airstrip at Lukla.

Total trekking time: 4 hours

Elevation: 2840m

Overnight Lukla

Early morning flight to Kathmandu from Lukla.

End of Trek.
